Gramineae: is the term used to identify plants that belong to the Poaceae family, both annual and perennial, and which are characterized by sheathed leaves, hollow stems, inflorescence (panicle type), spikelet or florets, and a caryopsis fruit. They are commonly used to create lawns but there are also species grown whose characteristics are perfect for decorating ornamental gardens. Sometimes plants from the Cyperus, Juncus, Luzula etc. families, which present similar morphological traits, are mistakenly included in this family of grasses.
